I don't know what's worse... Idiots or fundamentalists.. Anyhow I noticed the latter enjoy telling people what to do in their bedrooms. I have had too many first-hand encounters with radical Christians... Cannot hold hands/kiss/hug till marriage.. Now it's birth control... There have been an exchange that if birth control becomes something official, abortion should carry equivalent significance with the relevant authorities within or outside the Church.
I don't know how the Pope feels about birth control. For starters, I think he has to understand that we have evolved rapidly. And I read that the Pope has indirectly "approved" the use of condoms in the name of preventing the spread of STDs. I got into this online exchange with someone who couldn't lose... She took efforts to research on my points and cited texts by people using it against me...
To her, pregnancy is nothing more than God's gift of a life to a couple. She added that people should respect that principle, instead of having the mentality of wanting sex but not the baby. She said the pill is an act of inducing abortion. I challenged her that the pill stops ovulation for starters, and since there is no fertilisation, there is no abortion. I am referring to the brands dispensed by gynaecologists in Singapore.
The plot thickened when she asked me what sort of pills I am referring to. I named her the brands and she conceded defeat silently, yet added there are many formulations of pills which induce abortion. She then went onto to say birth control is something the church doesn't approve!
I replied she seemed hellbent on pills... whatever floats her boat. And incidentally, condoms are birth control too... and yes, they can break! The Pope too mentioned about condoms to prevent STD spreading. So we're back to square one. Maybe it's a better idea to stay out of people's bedrooms! She demanded I cite the passage which said so. The average reply frequency was 3:1 - three posts from her to one reply from me, till someone intervened and asked that the discussion be respectful, not personal.
Honestly, I would have happily posted the text on the Pope's comments about condoms.. and bet my last bottom dollar she will turn mental! She just hasn't experienced the situation of married couples not being able to afford a baby... So if she feels birth control is wrong, she better make sure she can abstain till they are $$$-ready. By the way, rhythm method is also a form of birth control...
My point is: quit imposing your own principles in the name of the Church. I applaud her effort in researching and citing texts to tarok me, but sadly, all I saw was nothing more than the need to win.
PS> And that Obedient Wives Club? Really, there is a limit to intelligence, and not stupidity! What makes you think by being obedient can keep your spouse close to you? If one wants to become a f***ing b******, anything can be a reason. God forbid, but if your husband finds another woman inspite of your out-of-this-world obedience, get ready for IMH. Yes, you won't be able to take it.Source URL: http://alohafred.blogspot.com/2011/06/stay-out-of-my-bedroom.html
